It is, indeed, visual poetry. My problem with the film is that she is too in love with it to make the cuts that are needed for a superior film. My last sentence about Michaelangelo is a reference to the fact that the raw material, the marble, is there, but she didn't carve it to perfection. I agree that Julie’s visual design is stunning. "Across the Universe" got a lot of pan from critics but we have the feeling that it's undoubtedly a helluva lot better than the comic book adaptations and slasher flicks Hollywood excretes like the byproducts of bad Mexican food...
